Whenever he sees new faces in Albertina’s Backyard, he observes every gesture and every movement in detail, and if he has a bad feeling, he immediately runs off with his beak wide open, ready to fight off any threat to his most precious possession: the peace of Albertina’s Backyard.
He is feared by many of the visitors to this place, even the most frequent ones, and is regarded as aggressive and temperamental. But is that really the case, or is Dwight simply a duckling misunderstood by humans?
One day, a mother goose laid two eggs. Unfortunately, she fell ill and eventually died, without having had time to hatch them.
At Casa da Albertina, the doorbell rang, these two little eggs had arrived, bringing with them a glimmer of hope that a hen might want to adopt them. Little Cesa was brooding but had no eggs of her own to look after, and so this happy coincidence came about. But only one of the goslings ended up hatching.
It was a little yellow duckling which, though only a few weeks old, was twice the size of its mother, Cesa, and yet still sought shelter with her; she did her best to take it in.
He grew up thoroughly spoilt by this overprotective mother and with immense respect for the whole henhouse. From an early age, he began to feel a strong sense of responsibility for protecting and maintaining peace in this place that had become his home.
Whenever Heihei and Natacho started yet another row, Dwight, who was already bigger than both of them, would step in to sort them out and put a stop to the commotion straight away. Whenever onlookers approached the gate, Dwight would run over to see who it was and try to work out whether they posed a threat or not.
But all this began to lead to misunderstandings.
When Dwight comes running, whoever is on the other side thinks they’re about to be bitten by an angry goose and, in a defensive instinct, either runs away or reacts abruptly in some other way. On the other hand, Dwight, who was simply running and shouting in a failed attempt to keep the peace in his garden, interprets such movements as a threat when he sees them and actually tries to bite in self-defence. And that is how a vicious cycle of misunderstandings began.
In fact, when in a group, geese lead a calm life without major conflicts. It can be quite peaceful to be amongst them if we approach them peacefully, with no intention of disturbing their well-being.
Dwight’s gang are the animals in Albertina’s garden, and he feels happy and at ease when he sees his garden calm and safe. If someone from outside turns up unannounced, walking quickly and speaking in a loud voice, and starts running as soon as they see him, he gets nervous and assumes that his most precious possession is under threat.
Actually, perhaps we could say that Dwight is a tiny bit temperamental. But only because he values his family and his home so highly, and a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere.

O Dwight, a mítica personagem do Quintal da Albertina.
